Linking Answers to Product Variants
When a Shopify product has multiple variants — such as different sizes, colours, or formulations — you can link a quiz answer to a specific variant rather than the whole product. This allows you to recommend exactly the right version of a product based on what the customer tells you in the quiz.
Why Link to a Variant Instead of the Whole Product
Linking to the entire product shows the product on the result page regardless of which variant is most relevant. When you link to a specific variant, you can direct the customer to the precise option that matches their needs — for example:
A quiz about clothing size links the "What is your size?" answers to Size S, M, L, or XL variants of the same product
A foundation quiz links answers about skin tone to the matching shade variant
A supplement quiz links answers about dosage preference to the 30-count vs. 90-count variant
Variant-level links give customers a more accurate and actionable recommendation.
How to Link an Answer to a Specific Variant
Open your quiz in the Quizify editor
Navigate to the Recommendations tab that contains the answers you want to configure
Find the answer and click on it
You will see a list of all the products in your store — search for your product by name and select it
After selecting the product, a Variant dropdown or selector will appear — choose the specific variant you want to link to this answer

The variant selector only appears for products that have more than one variant set up in Shopify. If the product has no variants, it will link as a standard product.
The result page will display the specific variant — with the correct variant name, image, and price — rather than the generic product.
How the Variant Displays on the Result Page
When a customer sees a variant-linked product on the result page, the variant details are reflected in the display. Depending on your Shopify product setup, this can include the variant-specific image, the correct price, and the variant name shown alongside the product title.
If your result page has an Add to Cart button, clicking it for a variant-linked product will add that specific variant to the customer's cart — without them needing to select a size or colour themselves.
What Happens If the Linked Variant Is Out of Stock
If the specific variant you linked to an answer is out of stock in Shopify and you have the hide unavailable products setting enabled in Quizify, that variant will not appear on the result page. The rest of the recommended products will still show.
If the hide unavailable setting is not enabled, the variant will still appear on the result page even if it is out of stock. In that case, the customer may attempt to add it to cart and encounter a stock message.
Enable the hide unavailable products setting in your result page configuration to ensure out-of-stock variants are automatically hidden from results.
