How Product Recommendations Work
At the heart of every Quizify quiz is the product recommendation — the moment a customer finishes answering questions and sees the products chosen specifically for them. This guide explains the concept behind recommendations and introduces the four recommendation types available in Quizify.
The Core Concept: Answers Drive Recommendations
When a customer takes your quiz, each answer they select is linked to one or more outcomes — products, score ranges, result types, or a combination. When the quiz ends, Quizify evaluates all of the customer's answers together and uses those links to determine which products to display on the result page.
The result page is the final screen the customer sees. It shows the recommended products, any descriptive content you have configured, and optional buttons such as Add to Cart or a link to the product page.
The Four Recommendation Types
Quizify supports four recommendation types. Each works differently and suits different kinds of quizzes. You choose the type that best matches how your products and customer journeys are structured.
Normal (Answer-Based) Recommendations
Each answer option is directly linked to one or more products, variants, collections, or product tags. When a customer selects an answer, any items linked to that answer are added to their result. If a customer selects multiple answers, the combined set of all linked products is shown — with duplicates removed.
This is the simplest and most widely used type. It works well for straightforward product finders where each answer clearly points to a specific product or range. Within this type, you can configure exact match or partial match mode to control how strictly products are filtered when a customer selects multiple answers.
Score-Based Recommendations
Each answer carries a numeric point value. As the customer progresses through the quiz, those values accumulate into a total score. You define score ranges — for example, 0–10, 11–20, 21–30 — and link each range to a product recommendation. The customer's final score falls into a range, and the products for that range are shown.
Score-based recommendations suit quizzes where customers sit on a spectrum — beginner to advanced, mild to severe, low maintenance to high maintenance — and the right product depends on where they land overall rather than any single answer.
Type-Based Recommendations
Each answer votes for a named result type that you define — for example, "Oily Skin", "Dry Skin", "Combination Skin", or a lifestyle persona. As the customer answers questions, votes accumulate for each type. The type with the most votes at the end of the quiz is the winning type, and its linked products are recommended.
Type-based recommendations are ideal for personality-style quizzes, skin or hair diagnostics, and any scenario where the goal is to classify the customer into a category before showing them products.
Thank You Page (No Product Recommendation)
Instead of showing product recommendations on the result page, the quiz ends with a customisable thank you message. No products are displayed. This type is useful for lead generation quizzes, survey-style quizzes, or any scenario where you want to capture customer information without immediately directing them to a product purchase.
How the Result Page Displays Recommendations
Once Quizify calculates the recommendation, the result page renders the matched products from your Shopify store. Each product card typically shows the product image, name, and price, along with any buttons you have enabled such as Add to Cart.
The result page is customisable — you can change the heading, description, button labels, product display order, and more. Products that are out of stock can be automatically hidden from results, and you can enable a "Load More" button if many products are recommended.
Always test your quiz using the Preview function before publishing to verify that the right products appear for each answer path.
Choosing the Right Recommendation Type
Recommendation Type | Best For |
|---|---|
Normal (answer-based) | Direct product finders, small catalogues, clear answer-to-product links |
Score-based | Spectrum outcomes, severity assessments, progressive results |
Type-based | Personality quizzes, skin/hair diagnostics, persona matching |
Thank You Page | Lead generation quizzes, surveys, flows with no immediate product recommendation |
Most quizzes use the Normal recommendation type. Score-based and type-based are more advanced setups suited to specific quiz structures.
