Score-Based Recommendations

Score-based recommendations are a more advanced recommendation type in Quizify. Instead of linking answers directly to products, you assign point values to answers, define score ranges, and link each range to product recommendations. The customer's total score determines which products they see.

How It Works

The scoring system works in three stages:

  1. Answers carry point values. You assign a numeric score to each answer option in your quiz — for example, 1 point for a mild response, 3 points for a moderate one, 5 points for a strong one.

  2. Points accumulate into a total score. As the customer moves through the quiz and selects answers, their point values add together to produce a final total score.

  3. The total score falls into a range. You define score ranges — for example, 0–10, 11–20, 21–30 — and link each range to a specific product recommendation. Quizify identifies which range the customer's score falls into and displays the products for that range on the result page.

When to Use Score-Based Recommendations

Score-based recommendations are the right choice when your products suit a spectrum of outcomes — where the difference between one recommendation and another depends on the overall picture rather than any single answer.

Common use cases include:

  • Severity or concern level — a skincare quiz where mild, moderate, and severe concerns each point to different product strengths

  • Experience or skill level — a fitness or nutrition quiz where beginners, intermediate users, and advanced users need different products

  • Lifestyle intensity — a wellness quiz where answers reflect how active, stressed, or health-focused a customer is overall

If the right product for a customer depends on their cumulative profile rather than one specific answer, score-based recommendations are likely the right approach.

How It Differs from Normal Recommendations

In Normal (answer-based) recommendations, each answer links directly to products, variants, collections, or product tags. The result is the union of everything the customer selected. Score-based recommendations do not use direct answer-to-product links. Instead, the total score is what determines the recommendation — individual answers only contribute their point values to the overall total.

This means:

  • One answer alone cannot determine the result — the full picture of the quiz matters

  • Products are mapped to score ranges, not to individual answers

  • The result is always a single range outcome, not a combination of multiple answers' linked products

Setup Overview

Setting up score-based recommendations involves four steps:

  1. Set your quiz to use score-based recommendations in the quiz settings

  2. Assign a point value to each answer option across your questions

  3. Define the score ranges that cover all possible totals

  4. Link each score range to the product recommendations for that outcome

You need to plan your score ranges carefully before publishing. Make sure your ranges cover every possible total score a customer could achieve, so no customer ends up without a recommendation.
