Quizify gives you 10+ different question types to choose from when building your quiz. Each type is designed for a different kind of input — from simple multiple choice to file uploads and address collection. This guide explains what each type looks like from a customer’s perspective, when to use it, and any important configuration details.

Single Selection and Multiple Selection are the most commonly used types for product recommendation logic. When an answer drives a product recommendation, it needs to be mapped in your recommendation setup — and this mapping works with selection-based questions. Other types (Short Text, Long Text, Date, File Upload, and others) collect valuable customer data but do not directly drive product recommendation results.

Single Selection

What customers see: A set of answer options displayed as button-style cards. Customers can select exactly one option before moving to the next question. When to use it: Any question where the answer is mutually exclusive — meaning only one answer is correct or appropriate at a time. For example: “What is your skin type?” or “Which best describes your lifestyle?” Single Selection is the most commonly used question type for product recommendation quizzes. Configuration notes: Each answer option can have recommendation links, images, and descriptions attached to it. You can also set up logic jumps based on which answer a customer selects.

Multiple Selection

What customers see: A set of answer options displayed as button-style cards. Customers can select one or more options before proceeding. When to use it: Questions where more than one answer might apply — for example: “What are your main skin concerns?” or “Which ingredients do you want to avoid?” This type is also commonly used for product recommendation logic. Configuration notes: You can set a maximum selection limit to cap how many answers a customer can choose. For example, setting the limit to 3 shows customers a message once they have selected 3 options and prevents them from selecting more. See Limiting Answer Selections for details.

Range Slider

What customers see: A horizontal slider that customers drag to select a value within a configurable range. The current value is displayed as they drag. When to use it: Questions that involve a numeric range — such as a budget (“What is your monthly budget?”), a quantity, or a preference scale (“How important is fragrance-free on a scale of 1 to 10?”). Configuration notes: Set the minimum and maximum values for the slider, as well as the step increment (how far the slider moves with each drag). You can also add labels to the two ends of the slider to give customers context (for example, “Low” and “High”).

Short Text

What customers see: A single-line text input field where they can type a brief response. When to use it: Questions that need a short, open-ended text answer — for example: “What is your name?”, “Do you have a referral code?”, or “What product are you shopping for?”. Short Text is ideal when the answer cannot be predicted and needs to be typed freely. Configuration notes: You can set a character limit on the input. Short Text responses are collected as free-form data and do not drive product recommendations directly.

Long Text

What customers see: A multi-line text area where they can type a longer response. When to use it: Open-ended questions that invite a detailed answer — such as “Tell us more about your skin concerns” or “Describe the occasion you are shopping for.” Long Text is best used at the end of a quiz or as a supplementary data-gathering question. Configuration notes: Like Short Text, Long Text responses are collected as free-form data and are visible in your submission records. They do not drive product recommendation logic.

Date

What customers see: A calendar date picker they can use to select a specific date. When to use it: Questions that require a date — such as “When is your birthday?” (for personalisation), “What is your event date?” (for occasion-based recommendations), or “When are you travelling?” (for travel product quizzes). Configuration notes: You can configure the date picker to restrict the selectable range (for example, only past dates, or only dates within the next 12 months). Date responses are stored in your submission data but do not feed into product recommendation logic.

File Upload

What customers see: A file upload button that lets them select and upload an image or document from their device. When to use it: Personalisation-heavy use cases where you need the customer to share something visual — for example, uploading a photo for a custom print recommendation, sharing a reference image for a bespoke product, or submitting a prescription or specification document. Configuration notes: You can specify which file types are accepted (for example, images only) and set a maximum file size. Uploaded files are accessible from your submission records in Quizify. This question type does not integrate with automated recommendation logic — the file is reviewed manually or handled via a follow-up process. They are available on higher-tier Quizify plans. Check your plan’s feature list to confirm availability.

Content Slide

What customers see: A full-screen informational slide with no answer input. It may contain text, an image, or both. Customers click a button to continue to the next question. When to use it: Content Slides are useful for providing context between sections of your quiz — for example, “Great! Now let’s talk about your routine” — or for displaying instructions, a brief explanation, or a section break. They help make the quiz feel conversational and guided rather than just a list of questions. Configuration notes: Content Slides do not collect any data and have no impact on recommendation logic.

Feedback

What customers see: A numeric rating scale from 1 to 10. Customers select a single number to submit their response. When to use it: Post-purchase or satisfaction surveys embedded within a quiz flow — for example, “How likely are you to recommend us?” or “How satisfied are you with your current routine?” This type is best used when you want a simple, standardised numeric response. Configuration notes: Customers can only respond with a number between 1 and 10. There is no text input attached to this question type. Feedback responses are stored in your submission data but do not drive product recommendation logic.

Rating

What customers see: A star rating selector (or similar icon-based scale) where they tap or click to give a rating. When to use it: Preference or importance questions — for example: “How important is it that the product is fragrance-free?” or “How would you rate your current skin condition?” Rating questions work well for capturing degrees of preference rather than discrete choices. Configuration notes: You can configure the icon of rating (use star or emoji icons). Rating responses are stored in submission data. While they do not directly drive product recommendation logic in the same way as selection-based questions, they can be used to gather preference data for manual analysis.

Address

What customers see: A structured address form with individual fields for street address, city, state or province, country, and ZIP or postcode. When to use it: When you need to collect a delivery address or location information as part of the quiz — for example, to recommend products available in a specific region, to check delivery eligibility, or to personalise recommendations based on location. Configuration notes: The Address question collects all address fields as structured data in your submission records. Address responses do not drive automated product recommendation logic but can be used as part of a manual follow-up or fulfilment process.

Name

What customers see: Two input fields: first name and last name. When to use it: Collecting the customer’s name early in the quiz allows you to personalise the experience — for example, addressing the customer by their first name on the result page (“Here are our top picks for you, Sarah.”). Use this type as an early question to make the quiz feel more personal. Configuration notes: Name data is stored in your submission records and can be used in result page personalisation tokens if your quiz theme supports it. It does not influence product recommendation logic.

Number

What customers see: A numeric input field where they can type or use up/down controls to enter a number. When to use it: Questions that require a specific numeric value — such as age (“How old are you?”), a measurement (“What is your waist size in inches?”), a quantity (“How many cups of coffee do you drink per day?”), or any other numerical input where a range slider would not be appropriate. Configuration notes: You can set minimum and maximum values to validate the input. Like other open-input types, Number responses are stored in submission data and do not directly drive product recommendation logic.
