Adding Descriptions to Answer
Sometimes an answer option needs a little extra context. Quizify lets you add a description to individual answer options — useful when an answer label alone might not be enough for customers to make a confident choice.
What Is an Answer Description?
An answer description is optional supporting text attached to a specific answer option. It is separate from the question description (which applies to the whole question) and sits directly alongside or beneath the answer label.
Answer descriptions are useful when:
An answer uses a term that some customers may not be familiar with (for example, "Humectant" on a skincare quiz — you could add a brief explanation like "An ingredient that draws moisture into the skin").
An answer needs a size or specification clarification (for example, "Large — fits waist 34–38 inches").
You want to help customers make a more informed choice without making the answer label itself too long.
How to Add a Description to an Answer
Open your quiz in the quiz editor.
Click on the question that contains the answer you want to update.
Click on the answer option you want to add a description to.
In the answer settings, find the Description field.
Enter the supporting text you want to display.
Save your changes.
You can add descriptions to as many or as few answers as you need. Descriptions are per-answer — each answer option has its own independent description field.
Two Display Modes: Inline and Tooltip
Once you have added a description, you can choose how it is displayed to customers. There are two display modes:
Inline
The description text appears permanently below the answer label, visible to the customer at all times without any interaction required. This is the most straightforward option and works well when the description is short and you want all customers to read it.
Use inline mode when:
The description is essential context that every customer should see.
The description is brief (one or two short sentences).
You want to reduce cognitive load by making information immediately available.
Tooltip
The description is hidden by default. A small info icon appears next to the answer label to indicate that more detail is available. When the customer hovers over the answer (on desktop) or taps the info icon (on mobile), the description text appears in a tooltip popup.
Use tooltip mode when:
The description is supplementary rather than essential — helpful for some customers but not all.
You want to keep the quiz interface clean and uncluttered.
The description is longer and would take up too much visible space if shown inline.
How to Switch Between Inline and Tooltip Mode
In the answer settings, find the Display Mode dropdown (or selector).
Choose either Inline or Tooltip.
Save your changes.
The setting is per-answer, so you can use different display modes on different answers within the same question.
Tooltip Styling Options
When using tooltip mode, you can customise the appearance of the tooltip to match your quiz design:
Tooltip text colour — the colour of the description text inside the tooltip.
Tooltip background colour — the background colour of the tooltip popup.
To configure these:
Open the answer settings for the answer using tooltip mode.
Find the Tooltip Text Colour and Tooltip Background Colour fields.
Use the colour pickers to select your preferred colours.
Save your changes.
Make sure there is enough contrast between the tooltip text colour and background colour so the description is easy to read. A dark background with light text, or a light background with dark text, tends to work best.
Does the Description Affect Recommendation Logic?
No. Answer descriptions are purely informational — they are displayed to customers for context but play no role in how Quizify processes answers or determines product recommendations. The description does not affect scoring, type matching, or any other part of the recommendation engine. Only the answer itself (whether it is selected or not) drives the recommendation logic.
